Abstract: Epigastric pain syndrome (EPS)is one of the common diseases in the department of gastroenterology. Upper abdominal pain or upper abdominal burning sensation is the typical clinical manifestation of EPS， which has a high clinical incidence and seriously affects the quality of life of the patients.According to the naming characteristics of diseases in traditional Chinese medicine， it belongs to the category of “epigastric pain” in Chinese medicine. Qi stagnation is the key factor causing the disease， and “treating gastric diseases without treating Qi is not treating them”. Dr.Zhou believed that although EPS is a disease of the spleen and stomach， it is closely related to the liver. “All diseases are born in Qi”， and liver regulates Qi of the body. Disharmony of liver Qi will lead to spleen and stomach disfunction，and cause the disease.Inspired by Wang Talin′s “three principles of syndrome differentiation”， Dr.Zhou treated the disease from liver Qi， and grasped the principle of separate treatment of spleen and stomach， first to distinguish the sequence of liver and spleen and stomach in the treatment， then distinguish the deficiency and excess， combined with theoretical basis and clinical syndrome differentiation and medication， elaborated the pathogenesis， treatment methods and prescriptions.In clinical practice， Dr. Zhou has achieved integral connection， treatment based on syndrome differentiation， and differentiation of primary and secondary， providing new treatment ideas and methods for the doctors to treat EPS.
