Abstract: Objective: To investigate the relationship between expression of MMP-9 and the infiltration of TAMs in squamous carcinoma of cervix and clinicopathlogic characteristics of squamous carcinoma of cervix(SCC). Methods: Fifty cases of SCC, 30 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia Ⅲ(CINⅢ) and 20 cases of normal cervical tissues were enrolled. SP immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of MMP-9 and CD68 (marked as TAMs). Results: The number of MMP-9 and CD68 positive cells in SCC tissues were more than those in CINⅢ and normal tissues;the expression of MMP-9 and the number of TAMs in squamous carcinoma tissues were positively correlated with depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and clinical stage; the number of TAMs were positively correlated with MMP-9. Conclusion: Number of TAMs was positively correlated with depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and clinical stage in SCC tissues. The number of TAMs was positively correlated with the MMP-9,indicating that MMP-9 may be involved in the TAMs to raise, meanwhile the TAMs may secrete more MMP-9 to promote SCC invasion and metastasis.
