Abstract: Simiaoyong′an decoction is a classic Chinese medicine prescription， which consists of honeysuckle， scrophulariaceae， angelica and licorice. It has the functions of clearing away heat and detoxifying， and promoting blood circulation. This is a special prescription for treating ulcer in ancient books， and can improve the status of “virtual， heat， poison， and phlegm” of geriatric patients.Pharmacology reseach has shown that the prescription has good effects on anti-inflammatory， protecting blood vessels， improving microcirculation， reducing blood lipid levels， and stabilizing plaque etc.Simiaoyong′an decoction has been widely used in geriatric cardiovascular diseases， brain and neurological diseases， respiratory diseases， infectious inflammation， autoimmune inflammation and other diseases， and the clinical effect is remarkable. This article reviews the mechanism on the treatment of geriatric disease， pharmacologic action，clinical application of simiaoyong′an decoction. The research group believes that the modern clinical application of simiaoyong′an decoction has far exceeded its ancient application range. The mechanism of its treatment of various geriatric diseases may be closely related to the improvement of chronic inflammation and microcirculation steady state.
