Abstract: Objective： To explore the role of licensed pharmacists in self-medication of the public，and provide references for fully playing the role of licensed pharmacists，promoting rational drug use，and protecting public health. Methods： By sorting out the advantages and risks of self-medication， put forward suggestions on how to play the professional role of licensed pharmacists. Results： Self-medication without the guidance of medical professionals， may delay medical consultation or have self-diagnosis errors， which may increase the risk of misuse of drugs， drug abuse， and overdose， etc. If it is taken with other medications or foods， drug interactions may occur， which increase the risk of adverse drug events， and even may delay or aggravate the illness condition， and cause damage to the body. Conclusion：During the process of self-medication of the public， licensed pharmacists should take the initiative to provide medication consultation， actively promote a healthy lifestyle， strengthen medication guidance， carry out medication therapy management， promote rational drug use， and improve the treatment effects.
