基于关联分析算法发现《监管活动医学词典》(MedDRA)术语英汉翻译中语义冲突问题的方法

An Approach for Detecting Semantic Conflicts in the English-Chinese Translation of Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities MedDRA Terms Based on Association Analysis Algorithms

摘要:

目的:通过关联分析算法,发现《监管活动医学词典》(MedDRA)术语英汉翻译中同一编码术语中、英文版本之间的语义冲突,修正部分错译问题。方法:以MedDRA 26.1中文版中的低位语(lowest level termLLT)共78 283条作为研究对象,以 MedDRA 26.1英文版作为正确对照。研究流程分为4个步骤,包括确定校验中文字词进行术语分类、中英文文本关联分析、定制筛选规则、人工校验结果。疑似错译的标准为相同编码术语的中文译文与英文原文存在语义冲突,或中文译文未体现英文原文的强关联语义。关联强度的计算方法采用药物警戒信号检测中常用的四格表法和信息成分指标。结果:通过关联分析,经规则筛选和人工校验,本研究发现MedDRA 26.1中文版存在语义冲突的错译术语共11个,翻译准确性欠佳的术语共8个;错译及翻译准确性欠佳的术语涉及英文词根“hyper-”与“hypo-”、英文单词“increased”和“decreased”。结论:本研究通过关联分析算法,利用相同编码MedDRA术语中文译文和英文原文的语义冲突发现错译问题,方法简单有效,可为MedDRA术语集的维护提供可行的技术支持,提升MedDRA多语言版本之间的语义一致性。

Abstract:

Objective: To detect the semantic conflicts between the Chinese and English versions of the terms with the same code in the English-Chinese translation of the Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities MedDRA based on the association analysis algorithm and correct translation errors.Methods: Taking a total of 78 283 Lowest Level Terms LLT in MedDRA 26.1 Chinese version as the research object with MedDRA 26.1 English version as the correct reference the research process includes 4 steps which are determining and classifying Chinese terms for verification analyzing the association between Chinese and English texts customizing filtering rules and manually verifying the results. The criterion for suspected errors in English translation to Chinese is when terms with the same code exhibit conflicting semantics in Chinese compared to English or when Chinese terms fail to reflect strong associative semantics present in English.The algorithm of association strength adopts the fourfold table method and the information component that are commonly used in pharmacovigilance signal detection.Results: Through association analysis rule filtering and manual verification a total of 11 mistranslated terms with semantic conflicts and 8 terms with poor translation accuracy in the Chinese version of MedDRA 26.1 were found in this study. The mistranslated and poorly translated terms in English-Chinese translation involve the English roots "hyper-" and "hypo-" as well as the English words "increased" and "decreased".Conclusion: In this study the mistranslation problems were discovered using the semantic conflicts between the Chinese translations and the original English texts of the MedDRA terms with the same code through the association analysis algorithm. The approach is simple and effective and can provide feasible technical support for the maintenance of the MedDRA term set and improve the semantic consistency among the multilingual versions of MedDRA.
