Abstract: Objective： To test 67 batches of medical absorbent cotton and gauze from 43 manufacturers in the market， to understand the quality of medical absorbent cotton and gauze in the market， and to provide reference for the formulation of supplementary inspection methods. Methods： The synthetic fiber in the sample was initially screened by burning method， and the synthetic fiber in the sample was quantitatively analyzed by dissolution method. Then the classification of synthetic fiber in the sample was identified by microscope or infrared spectroscopy. Results： No polyester fiber with more than 5% content was detected in 33 batches of medical absorbent cotton. 13 of the 34 batches of medical gauze contain polyester fiber content of more than 5%， accounting for 38.2% of the total. Conclusion： Most of the synthetic fibers illegally added into the tested 67 batches of medical absorbent cotton and gauze are polyester fibers.The adulteration of medical gauze is common and serious， and it is regional concentrated. It is suggested to add the supplementary inspection method of chemical synthetic fiber illegally added to such products， so as to provide technical support for product quality control， market regulation and administrative execution.
